What is Osteopathy?
A Holistic Path to Wellbeing

Osteopathy is a form of hands-on, government-registered allied healthcare focused on the intricate relationship between your body's structure and its overall function. The core principle is that the body has an innate ability to heal, and our role as osteopaths is to facilitate that process.

While the word “osteo” means bone, osteopathy is a whole-body approach to healthcare that considers how your bones, muscles, joints, fascia, nerves, and organs work together as one integrated system. We use a wide range of hands-on techniques to improve mobility, circulation, nervous system function, and your body’s innate ability to self-regulate and heal.

So whether you’re dealing with headaches, digestive issues, sports injuries, or stress-related tension, osteopathy can help address the deeper, interconnected patterns affecting your health.

Your first osteopathy consultation is a comprehensive session dedicated to understanding you and your health concerns. Your practitioner will conduct an in-depth case history and a thorough physical assessment to establish a working diagnosis, which will be clearly explained to you. This initial visit includes hands-on osteopathic treatment and the creation of a personalised management plan with home exercises or advice.

Follow-up appointments will focus on reassessing your progress, providing further tailored manual therapy, and updating your management plan as you recover. Throughout your care, you will receive continued education and support to help you understand your condition and achieve your health goals.

FAQs

  • It’s a great question. While all three professions treat musculoskeletal issues, our focus as Osteopaths is uniquely holistic. We treat the body as an interconnected system, working to find the root cause of your issue rather than just treating the area that hurts. We use a wide range of hands-on techniques, including massage, stretching, and gentle joint mobilisation, to restore overall balance and function. Our goal is to understand your entire story to provide lasting relief.

  • Every person and condition is unique. During your first visit, we will conduct a thorough assessment and give you a clear and honest treatment plan, including an estimate of how many sessions we believe you’ll need to achieve your goals. My commitment is to empower you with the tools for self-management, not to create long-term dependency.

  • No, a referral is not necessary. You can book an appointment with me directly. If you have an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) plan, now known as a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan from your GP, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate.

  • Yes, in most cases. Osteopathic services are covered by the ancillary or 'extras' cover of most major Australian private health insurance funds.

We offer HICAPS facilities at our clinic, which means you can claim your rebate on the spot and only pay the gap. The amount of your rebate will depend on your specific fund and level of cover, so we recommend checking with them directly for details.
